Introducing Shared Dreaming

A Methodology for Regenerative Communities & Visionary Leaders

Let’s imagine, just for a moment…

That the Earth is intelligent.

That the crises we face today are not symptoms of collapse, but signs of an emerging planetary sapience—a collective consciousness entangled with the vast web of life.

Imagine that every thought we think, every dream we dream, creates ripples across a field of awareness that ultimately manifests through our decisions, our systems, and the world we build.

What if the pressure cooker of climate change, biodiversity loss, economic instability, and all-out war is actually an invitation?

An invitation to dream again—to remember our role as conscious co-creators of life.

What if we could not only see the regenerative future already taking root in our communities, but actually feel it in our bones, taste it on our tongues?

What if this beautiful world isn’t some far-off utopia, but a real possibility—waiting patiently just beyond the edges of our imagination?

Dreaming The Symbiocene

As part of my book project, Symbiocene: Visions of a New Earth, I created Shared Dreaming—a simple, powerful methodology for land-based communities to co-envision regenerative futures.

It’s fun.
It’s easy.

And it leaves a lasting imprint that a more beautiful world isn’t just possible—it’s already here, hidden beneath the surface of our collective mind.

In the guide below, I’ve broken down the steps so that anyone—whether you’re building a village, working with a land project, or simply gathering with friends—can experience the magic of the shared dream.

How shared dreaming works

A small group (5–7 people) gathers with the shared intention of envisioning their village, project, or land-based dream in its most beautiful, fully realized form. Participants agree to suspend disbelief and enter the dream space with curiosity, imagination, and reverence for the intelligence of the land and its many inhabitants—fungi, plant, animal, and human.

Basic Setup:

  • Gather in a quiet space for ~1 hour

  • Lay in a circle with heads toward a central altar

  • Place a stone from the land at the center

  • Breathe in slow, heart-centered rhythm (6 seconds in, 6 seconds out) for 5 minutes

Once coherence is established, the facilitator offers a vivid opening prompt:

“As we approach the land, I can see a big beautiful gate, carved out of wood with ornate patterns. Jasmine cascades down its sides. I see a keyhole… and above it, a sign. You’re all standing around me, gazing at the gate.”

Then:

“What do you see?”

Each participant shares their vision aloud, in first person, describing what they see, feel, and experience.

The dream unfolds spontaneously—part lucid, part mystical.

You’ll find that the collective imagination becomes a single living tapestry. Often, a journey emerges, a shared mythos that leaves a deep imprint long after the session ends.

Closing the Dream

As the dream naturally winds down, the facilitator gently brings everyone back into their bodies, lying on the earth, in their breath.

Participants are then invited to give expression to their experience—offering it back to the land as a dance, painting, poem, song, or prayer. What emerges is a living exhibit of collective consciousness:

A village feast beneath a constellation of lanterns.
A circle of weavers threading prayers into garments.
A school without walls where everyone is both student and teacher.

The facilitator’s role

Your job is simple and sacred:

  • Create a safe, calm space

  • Guide participants into coherence

  • Offer an imaginative threshold

  • Ask “What do you see?”

  • Gently draw out quieter voices when needed

  • Surrender to the dream and enjoy the ride

You’re not in control of the story—you’re tending the edges, allowing the shared psyche to bloom.

Why It Matters

With just one hour, Shared Dreaming can forge powerful bonds within any group working toward a shared vision.

By entering the dream space together, we access the collective unconscious—the deep well of wisdom, memory, and possibility that exists beneath language and logic.

And the more we dream of a regenerative world, the more clearly we can see it—and take concrete steps toward making it real.

A Living Example

I’ll never forget the first session I facilitated at TDF in Alentejo, Portugal.

A group of children appeared, apprenticing under an elder shepherd. They were learning how to work with animals as a form of ecotherapy. Their laughter echoed through the valley, mingling with the bleating of sheep.

The message was clear: the regenerative villages of tomorrow will be living schools—where each member has something to teach, something to learn, and every project is an invitation to rediscover what it means to be human.

Dream with us at REBIRTH

We’ll be introducing Shared Dreaming as one of our methodologies during our upcoming REBIRTH leadership immersion, setting sail this September from Bodrum, Turkey through seven sacred sites culminating at the island of Patmos, Greece where John The Apostle wrote The Book of Revelation.

If you’re a visionary, a community builder, or simply someone yearning to access deeper clarity in this time of global transformation—

We’d love for you to dream with us.
